Sophie Dalpra

Sophie teaches our Free Class, Body Balance, offered as part of our Community initiative. Body Balance is a fun, low impact, resistance band class combining some chair based and standing activity. The aim is to strengthen muscles and bones to help make the functional activities of everyday life easier. All equipment will be provided but do feel free to bring along your own resistance band if you have one.

I spent 21 years as a PE trained Primary Teacher, before deciding it was time for a change and in 2017 I started work on a new Public Health funded project. The role has evolved into what it is now, and I represent a part of the Healthy You Lifestyle Service across East Cambs. My role is primarily to help create more opportunities for the inactive to be more active and to make healthy lifestyle changes. However, I love to keep my hand in with a bit of teaching and my fun, sociable and inclusive classes at Fresh are the highlight of my week! I am passionate about the benefits of physical activity at all stages in our life and understand how beneficial it is mentally and socially too.

Relevant to my classes here, I hold a Level 2 Award in delivering chair based exercise and strength and balance.

Sophie Loves

I love spending quality time with my quality people, whether it’s a walk, a coffee, a game, a full-blown dinner party, or just a good old natter and a laugh…it’s the time together that counts. I’ve always been active and enjoy kayaking and paddle-boarding. I also really enjoy a winter walk on the beach, especially if there is a log fire at the end of it! I’ve recently bought a second-hand road bike (and the accompanying shorts!) and am enjoying getting some miles in. As long as there’s a good coffee at the halfway point and the promise of something cool and refreshing at the end I’m happy. I’ve come to realise I just like being outdoors and have become highly skilled at finding reasons to get away from my desk and my laptop! One of my absolute favourite things when there is a blue sky (regardless of the time of year) is sitting outside with a good coffee, face turned to the sun and my eyes closed. Those minutes are so precious.

Sophie’s Wellbeing Tip

We are who we are right now. Not who we were or who we wish we could be. Embrace the now, put the effort into yourself that you deserve and be the best version of you.
