VIMALA
Donna Spence
She/Her
VImala teaches a range of Yoga classes at FRESH including Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga and our popular Saturday Yoga Flow class. She also runs workshops at FRESH including Sivananda Hatha Yoga.
I was introduced to Yoga in 2013 on holiday in Sweden when suffering acute back pain. I quickly became obsessed with the profound benefits, both physically & mentally.
I’ve always loved physical movement in various forms of exercise but realised I could help others the way yoga helped me. My passion & belief in yoga shines through in my classes offering knowledge, encouraging flexibility, physical and mental health strength, balance & well being.
MAD Credentials
After teaching friends & family, I took my Yoga teacher training in India - Himalayas & Kerala - over a 6 month period of 500hrs to advance level. This provided the most extraordinary life changing experiences including to use my given spiritual name, ‘Vimala.’
I immersed myself in training with the most dedicated teachers in a country that still feels like my second home.
In addition to Sivananda Hatha yoga and being trained to teach senior citizens (golden age) yoga which provides continued independents, mobility and stability. I am trained to teach pregnancy yoga and children’s yoga. I later trained in Yin yoga with Sarah Lo. I also offer gentle Restorative and yoga Nidra. Sound therapy with Tibetan singing bowls.
Vimala Loves
I do love to travel. People and different cultures interest me. Music is a great love of mine but so is silence. Apart from yoga, I admit to being addicted to exercise & physical challenges, weight lifting, & cardio workouts, fair weather cycling & more recently participating in dance routines (a work in progress!)
Krishna Das is my fave kirtan artiste
I relax with a good book, preferably a ‘page turner’.
I’m very much a warm weather being. I do love to laugh and usually at myself.
Vimala’s Well-Being Tips
Each day, internally remove your given labels eg, mum dad teacher director bus driver, and give yourself some peace, I mean real silence even for just 5 minutes, sit comfortably, deep breaths, set an alarm and just be.
Don’t keep beating yourself with repeated unsavoury memories - it is past, gone, no need to relive those moments.
Don’t worry about things that haven’t yet occurred
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Practice, Sun Salutation, 5 days a week.
Vimala’s Favourite Quote/Inspo
“Health is Wealth, Peace of Mind is Happiness, Yoga Shows the Way”
Poetry and spoken word comes from within whenever I feel the urge to put pen to paper.
“Inhale, and Life approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and Life remains with you. Exhale, and you approach a new moment. Hold the exhalation, and surrender to contentment.” Vimala
